Plan of a typical apartment.
24 FT
The new apartments will be grouped in two blocks linked by a courtyard. This is to be surrounded by covered parking for 34 cars, and its central open area will provide adequate park- ing space for visitors' vehicles. Both blocks of flats will be open at ground level, these areas being used as cover- ed children's playgrounds and, in the vicinity of the clubhouse, as viewing decks for the bowling and tennis.
One of the blocks will contain ten flats and the other twenty. The latter will consist of two units of ten flats arranged to form a continuous build- ing slightly staggered in plan in order to take full advantage of the site possibilities. Each of these three units of ten apartments will be of identical design: one flat per floor. The three ten-storey units will each have one passenger lift, and separate service lifts are to be provided to the servants' quarters.
All the apartments face northwest/ southeast and have consequently really magnificent views across the harbour. They are reasonably well protect- ed from the summer sun with- out being deprived of all sunshine in winter. Full use has been made of the beams and vertical projections to form sunbaffles. These do double duty as they are really small veran- dahs protected by iron grilles.
