CRAWLER CRANE

A new Link-Belt crawler mounted crane, the LS-98A, is available with either tubular or angle type boom in boom-jib lengths up to 150 ft. It has a capacity of 40 tons.

The crane is mounted on a 9ft. 6in. gauge x 15ft. lin. long lower frame. Steer-travel machinery is fitted in a line bore and is enclosed in the frame. Steering is hydraulically controlled

and steering and digging brakes are automatically applied and power hy- draulically released.

Separate power flow is provided for each function, allowing the various operations to be carried out indepen- dently or simultaneously.

MOTOR GRADERS

Two new motor graders have been introduced by the Construction Equip- ment Division of Westinghouse Air Brake Co., 2301 N.E. Adams Street, Peoria, Ill., USA – the 125 h.p., 27,100 lb. 666B and the 160 h.p., 32,500 lb. 777B.

Both are designed for operator com- fort. The seat adjusts up and down, forward and backward. All normal blade adjustments are controlled through positive mechanical worm gear reduction with individual motors which are self-locking when not in operation.

Common features include: a ripper- scarifier for heavy work; drawbar and circle arrangement with the reverse gear housing as a separate assembly; and a new lateral assembly for extra wide reach of the lateral link control ball to give optimum control link positions.

DUMPTRUCK

Suitable for road or on-site use, the ERF 64 (CU) 200 dumptruck has a struck capacity of 7 cu.yd, and a gross vehicle weight of 18 tons.

The vehicle carries a flexibly mount- ed, double roofed half-cab with a grouped control panel. Its scow-end body is constructed of 3/16in. plate, reinforced by a channel-steel sandwich floor with 11⁄21⁄2in, thick hardwood be- tween the bottom and the wearing plates.

The power unit is a Cummins NHK200 four-stroke diesel engine, de- veloping a maximum b.h.p. of 192 at 2,100 r.p.m. and a maximum torque of 540 lb.ft. at 1,320 r.p.m. A six-speed gearbox is fitted as standard. The single hydraulic-ram hoist is controlled from the cab.

E.R.F. Ltd., Sun Works, Sanbach, Ches., UK, are the makers.

COMPACTERS

Two new tractor-towed Hyster compacters incorporate a double ec- centric shaft that reduces considerably the amount of vibrations transmitted to the main bearing and isolators.

Both models the smooth drum C250A and the tamping drum C255A

develop a dynamic compactive force of 49.000 lb. (22,226 kg). The drum measures 6ft. 8in. (2.032 m) wide and has an outside diameter of 5ft. (1.524 m), the C255A being fitted with 160 six inch long tamping feet with re- placeable wear caps. Each drum is mounted in a wrap-round frame mea- suring 15ft. 1/8in. (4.575 m) long by 8ft. (2.438 m) wide.

The power unit is a GMC 4-53N Detroit four-cylinder diesel engine. working at 65 per cent of its full rated capacity. It can be started, stopped, throttled and the clutch en- gaged by remote control from the towing tractor.

Both compacters feature an all-gear drive, and the power is transmitted directly from the engine to the drum shaft. Two eccentric weights develop the high dynamic force, which is
