RESIDENCE for the CHIEF JUSTICE

TH

A view of Mount Gough Hill with the Chief Justice's house in the left foreground.

HERE are not many official residences in Hong Kong as such. Government House, for His Excellency the Governor, and the Honourable, the Colonial Secretary's residence are official residences in the sense that they are reserved exclusively for this purpose, as is also the residence for His Honour, the Chief Justice of the Colony.

Government House was rebuilt by the Japanese during the period of their occupation in the Colony, the Colonial Secretary's residence was recently completed and is described elsewhere in this issue, and the residence of the Chief Justice, which was completed in 1950, is of a sufficiently unpretentious nature to have escaped notice up to now.

GARAGE

Оп

It is situated on the upper slopes of Mount Gough and commands. a magnificent view of the southern part of the Island; standing on a very pleasant location and being set out a spur, it is sufficiently isolated to allow a considerable amount of ground around the house. The approach to it is by means of a short stretch of rather narrow road, but the actual access road to the house widens out in front of the building into an entrance courtyard which is formed by the angle of the house itself and the garage and

servants' therefrom.
