be used for assemblies, drill, games, and for plays for which a wide stage has been provided. Changing rooms, lavatories and store rooms adjoin the hall.
The main feature of the interior of the church is the dignified sim- plicity which allows the proper concentration of interest on the altar with its central communion table surmounted by a tall slender wooden cross. This important focal point is framed in a deep recess which is cleverly backlighted by concealed windows. On each side of the recess for the communion table there are tall grilles behind which is placed the organ loudspeaker. The surface of the grille is decorated in open work carving of a climbing vine motif specially designed and
carved for this place; the vines are gilded and have a dark background. These panels deserve special atten- tion as they are of beautiful work- manship and provide the necessary contrast for the backlighted com- munion table.
The approach to the communion table, which stands 8 ft. above the table, which stands 8 ft. above the floor of the church, is by means of wide teakwood stairs leading naturally and gracefully to the choir and to the pulpit. The choir is on the right hand side of the altar and is all in one group to obtain a better balance of voices. The pulpit pulpit which has been given a specially prominent position to the left of the altar is of a size large enough to accommodate a preacher and a translator often needed when

preachers speak a dialect other than Cantonese. The Hammond organ is also placed on the left side with the console standing on a gallery adjoining the pulpit. The walls of the church have been panelled in teak to a height of five feet and this panelling together with the flooring and the pews which have also been constructed of teak, have been left in a natural finish.
The church is indirectly illuminat- ed by eight cluster fittings, each containing nine lamps giving a uniform value of 6.5-7.5 foot can- dles. These were specially designed by the Architect to tone in with. the decorative scheme. The choir stalls and chancel are thrown into relief by the use of concealed Holo- phane floodlights, giving a great
