QUEEN'S

ROAD EAST

Major changes on a temporary basis will be made in the traffic arrangements in the area between

Jackson Road and Kapok Drive following the completion of Kapok Drive, towards the end of 1966, and the closure of the southern section of Murray Road in connection with the sale of the former Naval dockyard land.

Traffic Routing

Traffic routing in Jackson Road be- tween Chater Road and Des Voeux Road Central will remain one-way but its direction will be reversed, i.e. south bound instead of north bound as at present.

In conjunction with this change, the carriageway between the tram lines and the Hong Kong Cricket Club ground will be widened to enable east bound traffic from Chater Road to proceed to Wan Chai by way of Queen's Road East.

Motorists in Chater Road wishing to proceed to Garden Road or to Wan Chai via Harcourt Road will be able to continue along Chater Road and use the remaining portion of Murray Road between Chater Road and Connaught Road Central. This section of Murray Road will be made one-way south to north, i.e. opposite to the present direction.

Traffic emerging from Murray Road into Harcourt Road will be controlled by Police or traffic lights as a ten- porary

measure and may proceed along Harcourt Road to the east or turn south at Kapok Drive under the new flyover and travel to Garden Road via the Queen's Road East fly-

over.

The latter flyover will also incor- porate a down ramp for traffic wish- ing to proceed to Queen's Road Central and Des Voeux Road Central.

Slip Road

Kapok Drive will be extended be. yond Queen's Road East as a one-way up route for vehicles proceeding to the Mid-Levels and the Peak, rejoin- ing Garden Road below the Y.W.C.A. A slip road to enable traffic to rejoin Garden Road near the Peak Tram Station will also be provided.

Garden Road will become one-way down and motorists who now have to circulate round the Cricket Club ground to proceed to Queen's Road East, will be able to turn right at the bottom of Garden Road by way of another flyover to join the eastward

Queen's Road East into Kapok Drive will permitted for west-bound traffic at this intersection.

Vehicles travelling either east or west along Harcourt Road will also be able to use Kapok Drive to pro- ceed to Queen's Road East and from there to Wan Chai, Garden Road, Queen's Road Central or Des Voeux Road Central.

New road link to

open

HE new alternative road link between the Mid-level district and the Central District on Hong Kong Island will be opened to through traffic in a few weeks.

Motorists in Robinson Road will be able to go to the business centre through Albany Road, Glenealy and Wyndham Street instead of taking the present congested route through Garden Road. Mid-level bound traffic will be able to enter Ice House Street from Queen's Road Central.

The road link, construction of which started in July last year, connects Albany Road with Glenealy. Upper Albert Road crosses the new road by a 200-foot-long multi-span flyover the first road bridge to be constructed on Hong Kong Island since the war.

There will be two-way traffic in both Upper Albert Road and Albany Road. Turning movements for cars will be provided at the junction of the two roads where they join at the same level. A pedestrian subway has been completed under Albany Road opposite the entrance of the Botanic Gardens for use by visitors to the park. A linked traffic signal system will be installed at four road junctions to regulate traffic flow.
