N the site of the now demolish- ed Star Theatre at the junction of Peking Road and Hankow Road, Kowloon (KIL6611) is rising a new project which includes a new cine- mia, to be called the Sands Theatre, a small hotel and a shopping arcade,

The new building will rise ten storeys on the Hankow Road front- age, the upper floors of which will house the letting rooms of the new hotel. and will not be so high on the Peking Road frontage, rising only sufficiently to house the cinema.

In the basement accommodation is provided for the 120 h.p. air. conditioning plant. food preparation room and kitchen for the hotel. The remaining major portion of the base- ment is to be used as a garage, en- trance to which is by a ramp from Peking Road.

On the ground floor the cinema foyer is entered at the corner of the two roads; the hotel entrance is from Hankow Road. leading to the receiption counter and to the hotel lounge. Access to the hotel bed- rooms is by lift. The shopping arcade has entrances in both roads.

Seating capacity of the Sands Theatre is 1,116, in stalls and in balcony. Access to these is by stairs from the theatre foyer. Wait- ing rooms for the cinema are on the second and third floors over- looking Hankow Road. Full details of the style of decoration of the cinema have not yet been completed, but projection equipment and screen of the latest type are to be installed.

The hotel will have 36 letting rooms, each with its own fully equipped bathroom, built-in cup boards and teak flooring. All rooms will overlook Hankow Road.
