Although there was no limitation on the structural approach some designs required particular attention to systems of air-conditioning. The committee gave special attention to the suitability of the air-condition. ing system of each of the designs submitted.

The orientation of the buildings and the method of sun control; and

the form of the two auditoria with regard to acoustic control.

In view of the limited funds avail- able a clean and simple design was required.

The relationship in area and volume of circulation space to the floor area of the accommodation specified in the conditions.

Here again the limited money available necessitated a most econo- mical and realistic approach to both

siting and design in which any additional and unnecessary foyer and circulation space was eliminated.

The competence and clarity with which the scheme was presented and the degree to which competitors com- plied with the rules of the competi tion.

Elaborately prepared sets of draw- ings were not expected but the schemes and perspective sketches had to be clearly presented and easily interpreted.
