SITE for the Church of St.

Ignatius in King's Road, Singapore, completed last year for the English Assistancy of the Jesuit Fathers, had a natural contour of about 1 in 8, beginning at 4 feet above the road level and rising to wards the rear. Cutting and filling was used to construct a platform for the main floor of the church at a height of some 12 feet above the road.

To fit in with the shape of the site and to bring the congregation closer to the high altar, the ar chitect, Mr. Alfred H.K. Wong, adopted a square plan, basing his whole concept of the building on the simplest means of roofing a

square.
