The audience studio holds about 200 people on a sliding platform which can be folded away quickly if the whole studio area is required.

The most difficult aspect of de- signing the RTV project was the pro- vision of sufficient duct space for the air conditioning, electrical and Redif- fusion cables. A vast amount of duct- ing was required for the nine studios, which vary in size from 400 sq. ft. up to 3,500 sq. ft.

Lined ducts

These services are housed in the ceiling of the corridor which surrounds the central core on every floor. The air conditioning to the central core is a ducted system carried from air-cooled condensers mounted on the roof. This system was chosen for the studio areas to keep down the noise.

Each studio has its own set of ducts to avoid noise transmission from one studio to another and on each floor there is a separate air handling fan room. The air conditioning to the peri- meter offices is handled by fan coil units mounted in the ceiling in order to cope with the quickly varying sun loads which any exposed building may expect. All ducts are lined with poly- styrene and pass through rockwool lined attenuators.

Lighting grids, provided in the main

and are divided by open tracks along which the pantograph lighting suspen- sions may be moved in any direction according to needs.

The station is a strictly functional and relatively simple rectangular build- ing, constructed within a budget limit of HK$8 million. To present a pleasing external appearance and to discipline the variety of office sizes the entire ex- terior is clad in a grid of slim vertical windows between columns at 10 ft. centres with thin, horizontal, rectangu-

studios, are made of steel planking Audio control room with studio beyond

lar sunbreakers projecting from each floor level.

Both the large windows and the spandrel panel are glazed with grey sheet glass. The structural columns are emphasised in white and the panel be- tween the windows is treated with a dark Glamorock.

Around the top of the building an open white concrete screen provides a suitable border to the open roof area which will be used for open air inter- viewing and filming.
