Both accept plug-in QA miniature cir- cuit breakers as required and are sup- plied with blanking-off plates for un- filled spaces.

The eight-way load centre has two separate sections, one for normal tariff appliances, the other for appliances such as off-peak heaters wired into an off-peak circuit. Housed behind separate doors, each section incor- porates an 80-amp. main switch and makes provision for eight plug-in circuit breakers.

The 24-way version supplements the existing 6-, 12-, 24- and 36-way models. Depending on the user's re- quirements, it can be fitted with up to 12 double-pole or 24 single-pole plug- in circuit breakers on two phases.

Both the eight-way and the 24-way load centres come in a choice of sur- face ΟΙ flush-mounted sheet-steel cases, finished in two shades of grey stoved enamel. Both measure 11%in. wide by 4-1/8in. deep (299 by 105mm.), with heights of 1ft. 4 in. and 2ft. (413 and 610mm.) respective- ly. Flush-mounted versions have 2-in. (13-mm.) flanges around the outside.

front edges, and all cases incorporate knockouts for conduit entry on the top and bottom, as well as rear knock- outs in the back panel.

SEALANT

Dunlop, 25 St. James's Street, Lon- don, S.W.1, have introduced a long-life sealant for use on curtain wall con- structions on high buildings where maintenance would otherwise be dif ficult and expensive.

It is a two-part polysulphide mate- rial with good resistance to extremes

of weather. In addition it is sufficient- ly flexible to accomodate continuous joint movement of up to 30 per cent of the joint width.

The main constituent is a liquid polysulphide polymer which cures, after mixing with a curing agent, to an extremely tough, rubber-like form. It has exceptionally good ageing pro- perties and very high resistance to at- tack by ultra-violet light, ozone, oils, aviation fuels and waxes.

SEATING

Collapsible seating, in units from single chairs up to groups of six is now being marketted in South East Asia by being marketted in South East Asia by Bendix Consolidated Industries Ltd., Melbourne, Australia.

The seats, which stack compactly when not in use, have foam rubber padding and Vynex vinyl upholstery fabric, with frames of square tubular steel. The design and finish of the seats recently won an award of the Austra- lian Industrial Design Council.

The chairs are 31 in. high overall, with seats 19 in. wide and 18 in. from the floor. There are 22 different up- holstery shades.

CLIMBING JACK

A new climbing jack for slipform building will carry a load of 6 tons and is adjustable for wall thicknesses be- tween 9in. and 36in.

It consists of a fabricated steel frame or crosshead carrying an upper jaw unit and a lower jaw unit which is actuated by a single-acting hydraulic ram. Bolted to the crosshead are side- frames or soldiers, which support the shuttering. The jack, soldiers and shut- tering are carried on a climbing rod which passes through jaw units and guide bushes fixed in the top and bot tom members of the crosshead. Up to six tons vertical load can be supported by each jack using a 2in. diameter tube or up to three tons with a 1-1/8in. dia- meter rod.

Two types of soldier are available - a rigid triangular frame for normal use, or a heavier channel section for difficult corner positions.

The advantages of the new jack over other equipment include simpli- fied maintenance because the ram and jaw segments can all be serviced or re- placed without dismantling the whole jack. The ram is approximately 2ft. away from the climbing rod so that any hydraulic fluid leakage during maintenance or change will fall outside the shutter and not contaminate newly placed concrete.

pneumatically operated ram if requir ed, and if the wall is thick enough, standard 2in, scaffold tube can be used as a climbing rod which can be left in position when the slide is complete, eliminating recovery of climbing rods. Horizontal reinforcement can be fixed easily because of the wide headroom between the bottom member of the crosshead and the top of the shutter.

Elstree Engineering Services Ltd., Chester Road, Borehamwood, Herts., UK, are the makers.

PUMP

The Rapier 4PA pump with an out- put rating of 110.239 litres (24.250 gallons) an hour has been added to the range of self-priming pumps made by NCK-Rapier Ltd., Ipswich.

The pump is automatically self priming with a large air capacity to give quick priming response. A gland-

less water seal ensures that the pumps require no lubrication or adjustment.

It can pump dirty water containing 25 per cent. solid matter in suspen- sion, and can handle a maximum total head of 24.38m. (80ft.) The power unit is a Villiers air-cooled, single cy- linder industrial engine.

TILE MAKER

An Australian company, S.A. Ceil- ing Supplies Pty. Ltd., 18 Provident Avenue, Glynde, is marketing an auto- matic plant for the production of plas- tic acoustic tiles which takes only three men to operate.

Capable of producing 2,000 tiles a day, the machine selects the plaster and other aggregates required for the correct mix and discharges it into a prepared mould. The mould is then vibrated while the operator smooths off the top surface. By this time a fresh mix has been selected and the cycle continues.

The end product is a high standard, The jack can be operated with a low cost, plaster acoustic tile.
