NEW CONTRACTOR'S
EXCAVATOR
Digs and Loads at 100 cu.m. an Hour
con-
CONTINUOUS excavating and tinuous loading are given by a heavy- duty bucket wheel excavator being produced by Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries Co., Ltd., New Ohte Machi Building 4, Ohte Machi 2 chome Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo.
The bucket wheel is mounted on a slewing boom and excavated material is dropped on to belt con- veyors which carry it to the rear of the machine. Crawler-mounted, the unit will travel forward or reverse at 1.2 km. an hour. The excavating and loading capacity is 100 cu. m. an hour.
When the rear conveyor is set at a position, the slewing range of the turntable with bucket boom is 60 degrees to each side of the centre line of the rear conveyor. Opera- tion of a clutch lever moves the rear conveyor on its own or simal- taneously with the turntable.
The excavating depth is about 4 metres and the maximum delivery height of the rear conveyor is 3.3
metres.

Front and rear conveyors, slewing and bucket wheel rotating hydraulically driven. The wheel and slewing speeds are controlled from the cabin and a relief valve comes into operation if an immovable ob- ject is met. Air jets are fitted inside each bucket to avoid clogging when the machine is working in sticky material.

MOBILE CRANES
Three Models with 270-degree Slewing
P.O.
AUSTRALIAN company, H.C. South- well Pty.. Ltd., Box 1, Camden, New South Wales, are seeking agents in South East Asia for their range of light mobile cranes.
The range consists of three mo- dels of three, four and five tons capable of slewing through 270 degrees. They are designed for use without outriggers, even under maxi- mum load over the side or rear.
Safety features include automatic de-clutching of the main drive to prevent over-winding. overluffing and overslewing. Four control levers, mounted on an aircraft type control quadrant, enable the driver to operate
closed worm and wheel winches is provided by a take-off from the vehicle's engine and is transmitted by chain-drives to the winches.
The standard non-extending jib is 18 ft. long but for building jobs telescopic jibs up to 50 ft. are made. For travel the jib is stowed in a housing above the cabin with the hook attached to the front of the truck.
Steel ropes having a breaking strain of at least six times the maxi- mum load of the unit are used on each crane, which must pass a Government supervised overloading test of 25 per cent before being passed for delivery. The cranes are available as packaged kits, ready for local assembly.

deep channels, cross channels, cross members and steel side plates. Drive between the twin speed oil bath gear box and the final drive is through a prop shaft with universal joints. The final drive is through a bevel gear reduction in an enclosed oil bath to a spur pinion engaging into the internal toothed driving ring in the drive roll. Smooth re- verse is obtained through two Rock- ford over centre clutches.
The steel welded rolls are suitable for water ballast, and adjustable full width scrapers are fitted across both rolls. Sprayer bars are fitted across both rolls with mats ensuring com- plete coverage. The indepently con- trolled sprayers are gravity fed from a 150 gallon tank above the drive roll. Hydraulic power steering is by a double acting ram to the steering A gear type hydraulic pump,
