Post Office hangar in Central

A large hangar is to be built on the Central Reclamation, next to the Star Ferry concourse, to ex- pedite the handling of Hong Kong Post Office's rapidly ex- panding inward parcel services.

The large shed will have an area of 12,000 sq. ft. as well as a covered waiting space for the public. It will complete a new complex of Post Office buildings on the reclamation.

The DPW said last month that he hoped that expert advice from Britain on the postal mechanisa- tion system to be used in a new five-storey general post office building on the central reclama- tion would be available shortly when the working drawings for the project were finalised and contract documents prepared.

New Clinical building at Queen Mary

Construction

starts this

month on a new three-storey clini- cal building at Queen Mary Hos- pital, Hong Kong. It will be built south of the existing professorial block and the two buildings will be linked by an external covered

way.

On completion the new build- ing will provide extra teaching facilities and will enable the medical faculty of the Hong Kong University to reorganise the existing clinical departments now housed in the professorial block.

There will be a car park at ground floor and two lecture theatres, each able to accommo- date 200 seats, at lower ground level. The first floor will house the Department Paediatrics.

Building plans approved

The Hong Kong Building Au- thority approved 59 new build- ing plans of all types in April, and certified 68 completed build- ings for occupation. Of the plans approved, 26 were on the island, seven in Kowloon, 11 in New Kowloon and 15 in the New Ter- ritories.
