T

HE Makati multi-level car park. sited along de la Rosa Street, near Ayala Avenue, is the first of its kind in the Philippines. It is also the first of seven such structures that will eventually stand behind every block along the administrative office area of the town.

Occupying a site area of 6.854 square metres, the three-storey build- ing accommodates more than 600 cars: 192 on the ground floor, 186 on the first. 196 on the second and 32 beneath the two wide ramps. The entry and exit ramps to the first and second floors are placed on either side of the building so that the floor area is fully utilised for parking.

The rectangular building measures 126 ft. wide by 486 ft. long by 19 ft. high. The floor area at ground level is 61.300 sq. ft. and the first and second floors each cover approximate- ly 59,000 sq. ft.

There are 72 reinforced concrete supporting columns 18 in each of four rows. These are so placed to allow maximum floor space and visi- hility. Average ceiling clearance is 9 ft.

The two ramps are five metres wide. They have anti-slip grooves and rise at a gradient of 10 degrees.

Solar Screen

A solar screen of ceramic tiles en- closes the ground floor. The first floor has open sides and the second floor is uncovered and is lit by six posts with double mercury vapour lamps.

Two counters with granolithic mar- ble tops, one at the entrance and an- other at the exit, serve as outposts for the guards and attendants.

The building and surrounding im- provements cost about P2.5 million and the site is valued at some P3.4 million. The owners. Makati Deve- lopment Corporation, expect to re- cover this investment within 40 years.
