minute. They are on a Duplex col- lective selective control, automatic push button operation system. To reduce costs the lift stops are located from 3rd floor to 13th floor, i.e. no lift door opening on 1st, 2nd, 14th and 15th floors.

A large elliptical concrete water tank is provided on the top of the lift well, supplying all the flats below by gravity. The water is pumped up to the roof tank from a ground water storage tank. A ten-gallon water tank is installed in the WC of each flat to serve as a safety measure preventing the supply to the bathroom and WC from contaminating the water in the main supply line.

This system applies to the four- storey flats as well, except that no pumps are required, and the supply of water to the main storage tank on top of the roof is by waterpressure.

Fairface Concrete

Two common concrete refuse chutes are located at each end of the building. Asbestos refuse chutes are not used for these flats for fear that they would not last for 40 years, which is the repayment period of the loan obtained by the Municipality of Ipoh from the Central Government,

Again, for economical reasons, all reinforced concrete floors are without cement screed or any form of tiling. They are finished with a steel float. All walls and ceilings are painted with a cement base paint without plaster, glazed tiles being used only in refuse chute areas
