This small book provides a precis of numerous design methods for all the more widely used forms of shells and plates from 'folded plates' to 'doubly curved shells'.

Its scope is such that it would be invaluable to the engineer. Apart from the basic design data, there are a large number of references which enable one to find more detailed in- formation as required. For the student it forms a good basic theory and an appreciation of the many types of shells used, with photographs to illustrate several of these. The book notes that, as is true of many complex structures, model tests care- fully executed constitute the only cer- tain basis for design.
