A monument to the
moon conquest
TAIWANESE architect, Mr. Dahong Wang has produced a project for a monument to commemorate man's conquest of the moon.
His idea has been well received by officials in Taipei, which is the sister city of Houston, Texas, and an illus- trated prospectus is now being prepared for promotional work on the scheme in both centres.
Mr. Wang has taken his inspiration from The Monument, the 202 ft. high Doric column built by Wren in the City of London to commemorate the great fire of 1666. He argues: 'It be- hoves us to commemorate in a similar material form such an unprecedented achievement as man's conquest of the moon, after a thousand years of dream-
ing'.
