An all-welded power box encases the major machinery which is com- pletely enclosed and splash lubricat- ed. Only one oil change is required per year.

The carrier measures 22ft. 10in. long and 8ft. wide. It has a turning radius of 35ft. 6in. and a 163in. wheelbase. It can be quickly con- verted into a dragline, backhoe or shovel.

Diesel Engined Four Wheel Drive Unit

A FOUR-WHEEL drive diesel engine tractor shovel, model SY, has been added to the range of machines made by Toyota Motor Sales Co., Ltd., 2-2 Hijiecho, Nakamura-ku, Nagoya, Japan.

The front end equipment may be a bucket or a hinged fork for handling logs and timber.

Capacity of the shovel is 1,600 kg., and the maximum load at full reach is 1.200 kg. Dumping clearance is 2,470 mm. and bucket capacity is 0.7 cu. metres. The Toyota Model J

By operation of a governor con- trol, the Weldalite becomes self- regulating alternator, giving an out- put of 7.5-kVA, three phase 50 cycles at 1,500 r.p.m.

The set is fitted with an Enfield "85" air-cooled, four stroke, twin cylinder, horizontally opposed com- pression ignition diesel engine. Of lightweight aluminium construction, the engine has a continuous rating of 12 b.h.p. at 1,500 r.p.m. and 14.5 b.h.p. at 2,100 r.p.m.

Four Wheel Drive Heavy Duty Machine

KNOWN as the International Hough BH-30 Series B Payloader, a new 70 b.h.p. four wheel drive tractor shovel of 3,500 lb. operating capacity, fitted with a standard 1 cu. yd. bucket, has been introduced by International Harvester of Great Britain, Ltd.

It has a four cylinder diesel en- gine, which develops 70 b.h.p. at 1,800 r.p.m.

The BH-30B has a single stage, two phase torque converter with a stall ratio of 2,975 to 1, the power unit and torque converter being matched to give full power at all load con- ditions.

Drive from the con- verter is taken to а three speed, full revers- ing, constant mesh power shift transmis- sion unit which gives forward speeds of up to 3.6. 7.9 and 22

m.p.h. in first, second and third ranges respectively. Reverse speeds are 20 per cent faster.

Boom arms are pivoted well for- ward of the operator, the twin dou- ble acting, 4in. diameter lift rams raising the boom to a maximum height of 10 ft. Zin. below the bucket in seven seconds.

TRACTOR SHOVEL Automatic Bucket Levelling Device

THE model 204 tractor shovel made by Yale and Towne Manufacturing Co., Wolverhampton, UK, has been redesigned. Now known as the 204A, the machine has a one-piece side frame, new linkage for the box- construction lift arms, together with a larger pump and bigger cylinders.

Reach of the bucket from the cutting edge at maximum height of 8ft. 10in. has also been improved from 2ft. 8in. to 3ft. 2in. and an

automatic bucket levelling device to speed production is standard.

The six cylinder diesel engine develops 138 h.p. at 2,400 r.p.m. A fully automatic, four-speed power shift transmission is fitted and tra- velling speeds have been increased from 21 m.p.h. to 30 m.p.h. in each direction.

Lifting capacity is 13,000lb. and carrying capacity is 8,666lb. Dumping clearance is 8ft. 10in. to the cutting edge of the standard 2 cu. yd. bucket.
