Ambulance Division
26 additional posts in the Fireman grades were approved by Special Warrant during 1963-64 to enable adjustments to be made in working hours.
4 new posts of Fireman Class I are offset by the reduction of 4 posts of Ambulance Dresser. The remaining additional posts are provided for new ambulances.
Supernumerary Staff
The 30 additional posts of Assistant Station Officer were approved by Special Warrant during 1963-64 as a Training Reserve.
Under Other Charges Annually Recurrent, the overall increase of $331,600 reflects the continuing expansion of the Fire Services and is concentrated mainly in the votes covering Subsistence allowances, Up- keep and running expenses of fire appliances and other vehicles, and Uniforms and accoutrements for disciplined staff.
Under Special Expenditure, the provisions included cover a wide variety of equipment and appliances etc. for expansion and are generally self-explanatory. The provision of $4,100 in the Subhead "Cable and Wireless stores" is to cover the purchase of certain spare parts under the terms of a revised agree- ment with the Company covering the provision of technical services.

* Approved by Special Warrant during the year.
The additional post of Senior Immigration Inspector is provided primarily for the purpose of departmental training.
The other additional staff are provided to cope with an increasing volume of work, in relation in particular to the increasing number of visiting students and children at certain times of the year.
Under Other Charges Annually Recurrent the increase in the Rent vote is due to an increase in rent payable in respect of the premises occupied by the departmental headquarters. The reduced provision for the Macau Office follows a revision of the financial arrangements in respect of the office.
