The combined grade of Health Inspector and the new grades of Student Health Inspector and Health Inspector Class II shown in the various divisions are the result of a review of the Health Inspector grades which was carried out during 1962-63.

Headquarters

1 post of Chief Health Inspector is required for training duties and is offset by the reduction of 1 post of Senior Health Inspector. The establishment of Senior Health Inspectors remains, however, the same, as 1 additional post was approved during 1962-63 to replace the former post of Transport Supervisor.

Additional clerical staff provided includes 1 Clerk to assist the Chief Health Inspector (Kowloon) and for duties at Kowloon Cleansing Headquarters and 18 Clerical Assistants, 16 of which were approved - during 1962-63 for car park duties and remaining 2 to assist the Chief Health Inspector (General) and for duties at the Kowloon Cleansing Headquarters respectively. A reduction of 3 posts of Clerk has been made consequent upon the abolition of conservancy fees.

The new post of Foreman Class II is for the land transport garage, Kowloon, and the 25 Motor Drivers for additional vehicles.

Cleansing Division

The additional post of Chief Health Inspector provided for the senior staff of this division is offset by the reduction of 1 post of Superintendent of Urban Services under Headquarters.

1 post of Senior Health Inspector is provided to strengthen the supervision of the Kowloon cleansing areas. 4 Health Inspectors have been transferred from the Hygiene Division, 2 for the additional special cleansing squads for Kowloon, 1 for the expansion of Kowloon north-east cleansing area and 1 to assist the Supervisor of Cemeteries and Crematorium.

3 additional posts of Overseer are provided, 1 for the expansion of Kowloon north-east cleansing area and 2 for the two additional special cleansing squads in Kowloon. These posts are offset by the reduction of 3 posts under the Amenities and General Division. Of the 87 additional posts of Chargemen, 67 are provided for cleansing duties in Hong Kong and Kowloon, 19 for leave reserve and 1 to replace an existing post of Coxswain Class III. These posts are offset by the reduction of 86 posts of Ganger. 2 Latrine/Bath- house Attendants are required for duties at Deep Water Bay.
