I additional post each of Producer and Interpreter/Translator are required for the Chinese Service. The requirement for the additional post of Secretary Stenographer and the 2 supernumerary posts of Messenger arises mainly from the transfer of the administrative offices of the Department to Wellington Barracks.

Increases under Other Charges Annually Recurrent include $67,500 to cover increased royalty and transcription fees; $6,000 for records and recording tapes; $4,900 for miscellaneous programme expenses; $25,000 for general programme expenses resulting from increased activities; and $30,000 for relief announcers essential to the smooth running of the department.

Under Special Expenditure $38,100 has been included to meet the cost of purchasing one replace- ment Concert Grand Piano. .

The 2 new posts of Rating and Valuation Surveyor are required to meet a continuing expansion of rating and valuation work. The additional post of Valuation Assistant is offset by the reduction of 1 post of Assistant Surveyor Class II, the latter post having lapsed with the retirement of the holder. The additional Secretary Stenographer is required in view of the increased number of posts of senior staff. 4 additional Clerks are provided to deal with increasing statistical work, and to undertake certain of the work previously done by Valuation Assistants. The additional post of Clerical Assistant is to meet a general increase in the volume of work. 1 Watchman and 2 Messengers are required in view of the move of the department to new and larger premises.

Under Other Charges Annually Recurrent, the reduction in the provision for rent is attributable to the impending move of the department out of rented premises into a Government building early in the financial year.
