The nine new posts listed above are all required for a new explosives section in connexion with the assumption by the Mines Division of certain responsibilities for the control of explosives consequent upon the revision of the Dangerous Goods (General) Regulations.

Under Other Charges Annually Recurrent, the creation of the new explosives section is responsible for the additional provisions shown for uniforms and running expenses of vehicles and also accounts for the increase in travelling expenses which is required in view of the considerable amount of travel- ling which officers and inspectors of the section will be required to undertake. The net increase is $4,600.

A provision of $20,500 is included under Special Expenditure for the purchase of one motor car and two motor scooters for use by the staff of the explosives section.
