The estimate for 1961/62 shows an increase of approximately $3.2 millions, being the first instalment of £200,000, in repayment of the United Kingdom loan for the Kai Tak Airport which falls due on 1st October, 1961.

Funds for the creation of this department were approved by Special Warrant in January 1961.

The Public Enquiry Service has been set up to assist the general public desiring information about the services and functions performed by Government departments, and to help them to understand departmental procedures. In the initial stages it is only proposed to provide a Central Enquiry Desk, to be located in the Ground Floor hall of the West Wing of the Central Government Offices, and the necessary head office organization. Departmental enquiry desks and the production of informative pamphlets will be aimed at later, if the initial experimental scheme proves successful.
