Although C.A.S. activities are increasing with the growth of the urban areas, careful attention to departmental organization has resulted in the estimate for 1961/1962 being some 4 per cent less than the approved estimate for 1960/61.

The new post of Secretary Stenographer is offset by the reduction of the post of Confidential

In order to reach a target of 1,500 registrations for Identity Cards a day, an increase of 25 Clerks, 5 Typists, 10 Clerical Assistants and 4 Messengers was approved by Special Warrant during the year. The further increase of 1 Registrar, 2 Registration Supervisors, 1 Photographer, 5 Clerks, 6 Typists, and 1 Clerical Assistant is to enable a target of 2,000 registrations a day to be reached.

The post of Commissioner of Registration under Supernumerary Staff is provided for the pre- retirement leave salary of the former Commissioner; the post of Executive Officer is held against the Com- missioner of Registration vacancy and the two posts of Registration Supervisors are held against vacancies in the pensionable establishment.
