Of the two additional Executive Grade Officers, one is required to take charge of the General Registry and the other to assist in the Accounts Section. The additional Confidential Assistant, 4 Clerks and 9 Office/Workshop Assistants are needed to cope with the increased work in Head Office; 5 Clerks are provided as leave reserve; of the 11 other Clerks and 12 Office/Workshop Assistants, 2 Clerks and 6 Office/Workshop Assistants are for the Scavenging and Conservancy Sections, 3 Office/Workshop Assistants are for the Outlying Offices with 3 more for District Offices, and 2 Clerks for the Pest Control Offices, Hong Kong and Kowloon, 7 Clerks posts were approved during the year for the Star Ferry (3) and City Hall (4) Multi-Storey Car Parks; the increase in Office/Workshop Assistant posts is partially offset by a reduction of 11 posts of Clerks and 4 posts of Office Attendants. Two posts of Telephone Operators will be redundant with the removal of the office to the West Wing of the Central Government Offices and the consequent surrender of the telephone switch board. The Stores Officer is required to take charge of the considerable quantities of stores held by the Department. Three Punch Operators are required for the punching and up-keep of departmental record cards.

In order that the necessary preparatory work for the City Hall Library may commence before the completion of the building, the post of Librarian is required now.

One Transport Supervisor and 2 Assistant Transport Supervisors posts have been created to introduce more effective control over the use of departmental transport: the former post is offset by the reduction of a Senior Health Inspector post.

Further staff for the Star Ferry and City Hall Car Parks were approved during the year as follows:-1 Overseer, 2 Foremen Class I, 25 Car Park Attendants and 5 Sanitary Coolies.

Additional staff as follows are required for new vehicles and to provide a sufficient leave reserve in the transport section:- -18 Special Drivers, 17 Motor Drivers, 2 Foremen Class II, 1 Motor Mechanic, 3 Semi-skilled Labourers and 74 Sanitary Coolies.

An extra 17 Watchman posts are required at the Hung Hom godown (2), the Abattoirs (9), the Hong Kong Hawkers Office (2) and to provide a leave reserve (4): these additional posts are offset by a reduction of 2 Armed Guards and 12 Sanitary Coolies. Other indoor staff requested are a Head Attendant and a Head Messenger for Head Office; 6 Office Attendants for the Abattoirs (3), Accounts Office (1) and leave reserve (2) (offset by a reduction of 2 Sanitary Coolies); 11 Messengers for the Head Office (2), Pest Control Sections (1), District Offices (3), Hong Kong Garage (1), Slaughterhouses (2) and Cemetery Depots (2) (offset by 10 Sanitary Coolies and 1 Pest Control Coolie); 16 Cleaners for depart- mental barrack accommodation (offset by 15 Sanitary Coolies); 2 Stores Attendants for the Cemetery Depots at Hung Hom and Oil Street (offset by 2 Sanitary Coolies), 3 Sanitary Coolies for the main stores office at the Hong Kong Disinfecting Station.
