Due to the expansion of the Fire Brigade and the construction of additional Fire Stations coupled with increased inspection, considerable staff increases are necessary.

The same causes account for the net increase of $152,000 under Other Charges Annually Recurrent. The main increases are $13,700 for fuel, light and power; $50,000 for stores and equipment; $10,000 for the upkeep of fire appliances and running expenses of vehicles; and $73,400 for uniforms and accoutrements for disciplined staff.

Under Special Expenditure, new vehicles include an Escape/Pump appliance to replace a 29 year old machine, two hose lorries and one additional car. In order to maintain contact at all times between officers in charge of fire appliances and Fire Brigade Headquarters and/or Fire Stations during fire fighting operations, it is proposed to provide radio telephone sets to the following appliances and vehicles:-
