The operation of the Airport on a 24-hour basis as from August/September, 1958, necessitates the above increases in staff. The supernumerary post of Fire Sub-Officer has been abolished due to the promotion of the holder to the post of Assistant Airport Fire Officer.
These changes, together with normal increments, account for the increase of $301,800 in the vote for personal emoluments.
Under Special Expenditure, the provision of $193,000 is for an Airfield Crash Tender ($178,000) required by the Fire Section of the new Airport, and also for a Land Rover ($15,000) fitted with a loud hailer and R/T equipment for the use of the newly established Marshalling staff for apron duties.
