The expanding activities of the department have led to some increases in the Other Charges Annually Recurrent subheads. In particular, the provision for the rent of offices has been increased as additional rented accommodation is to be provided to allow for the expansion of the Stamp Office and for the department's new responsibilities in connexion with Business Registration.

Under Special Expenditure provision has been made for the replacement of an old franking machine and other minor items of normal office equipment.

Other than the additional staff necessitated by a general increase in work in various sections of the department, the principal additions are due to the establishment of 1 additional District Court and 3 additional Magistrates Courts plus adequate leave reserve posts. The creation of these 4 Courts accounts for 3 of the posts of Magistrate plus 1 Executive Officer, 4 Interpreter/ Translators, 4 Clerks, 1 Office Attendant, and 3 Messengers. The other 3 posts of magistrate provide a leave reserve for all judicial officers and replace 1 post of District Judge provided for in the 1956/57 Estimates as a leave reserve and now considered as a duty post.

Under Other Charges, proportionate increases are aimed at coping with the greater number of Courts and the subsequent augmenting of Court staff.
