COMMUNICATIONS.

Sub-head 85.-Patrol Path from Lin Ma Hang to Shataukok, $25,000.-This path was put in hand in order that patrols and pedestrians could cover this section of the frontier in British Territory instead of having to cross the border as was necessary by the old path. The length dealt with is about 4 miles in length x 6 ft. wide.

86.-Reconditioning of Roads, $30,000.-In view of the increasing motor and bus traffic the roads must of necessity be gradually strengthened to meet requirements.

87.-Widening Kam Tin Road to 20 feet, $6,000.-This road has a present width of 8-12 ft. and in view of the increasing traffic should be widened.

MISCELLANEOUS.

88.-New telephone switch board for Tai Po Police Station, $2,600. Com- plaints have been received from the Police as to the unsatisfactory condition of this switch board.

89.-Un Long Nullahs and Improvements, $3,000.-This vote is required in connection with the training of the present ditch that runs round the outskirts of the market and adjacent to which areas are being developed.

90.-Tai Po Land Office European Lavatory and Small Store, $1,255

Necessary as these improvements have not yet been provided.

91.-Compensation and Resumptions, $3,000.-For the small resumptions which become necessary during the year in connction with small im- provements works etc.

92.—Windmill for irrigation purposes, $3,000.-For the purchase and erec- tion of a windmill for irrigating areas that at present lie fallow. Should the scheme prove a success it will be extended.

93.-Arms Grilles for New Territories Police Stations, $3,600.-Necessary for the protection of arms and ammunition in the New Territories Sta- tions at present not provided with these safeguards.

WATER WORKS.

94.-Improvements to Fan Ling Water Works, $5,000.-For alterations to

the intake works in order to improve pressure.
