Owing to increased analytical work one 3rd Grade Clerk has been added to th Staff of the Government Laboratory.

Two Sanitary Inspectors (£165 to £225 by £15 triennially) and two 5th Grad Interpreters to Sanitary Inspectors have been added for work at Kowloon City an Shamshuipo, which has formerly been done by Police Inspectors.

Owing to increased number of interments and exhumations two additional Sexton are required.

Six Scavenging Coolies have been added on account of increased work on the Peak

Owing to increase in the number of animals killed at Ma Tau Kok Slaughter Hous one additional Scavenging Coolie is required for the Veterinary Staff.

With a view to increased supervision of Elementary Vernacular Education in Hong kong and the New Territories, for which increased grants are inserted under Other Charges

Owing to the difficulty of securing satisfactory Vernacular Masters it is proposed to train young students for these posts and provision is therefore made for 10 Vernaculai Pupil Teachers.

Owing to increased attendance at Ellis Kadoorie School

1 Assistant Master, Class II

1 Assistant Master, Class III

1 Assistant Master, Class IV

have been added to the Staff of that school.

The posts of 6 Passed Student Teachers and of 4 Student Teachers at Belilio Public School have been abolished and the system reorganised. The following posts have therefore been inserted :-

1 Assistant Chinese Mistress, ($1,320 to $1,560 by $120 annually).

2 Assistant Chinese Mistresses, ($720 to $1,440 by $120 annually).

7 Assistant Chinese Mistresses at $720 each.

2 Assistant Chinese Mistresses, ($480 to $660 by $60 annually).

Owing to the large increase of Public Works in progress and in prospect the follow ing additions have been made to the staff of the Public Works Department:-

1 2nd Grade Executive Engineer.

2 2nd Grade Assistant Engineers.

1 Clerk of Works.

1 Road Surveyor.

In order to cope with the increase of work in the department and keep up to date the drainage plans and records one Apprentice Surveyor has been added to the Staff.

Considerable increase in the work of the Architectural and Drawing Office has necessitated a strengthening of the Staff. Three posts, one 1st Grade Tracer and two 2nd Grade Tracers, have been abolished and the following additions have been made:-

2 3rd Grade Draughtsmen.

2 4th Grade Draughtsmen.

2 5th Grade Draughtsmen.

4 6th Grade Draughtsmen.
