EXPLANATORY NOTES.
One House-boy and one Amah have been added to the Establishment and the salaries of four Coolies are now wholly borne by Government. All were employed by successive Governors.
One 1st Grade Clerk has been added to the Staff of the Stamp Office, in order that he may eventually be in a position to take over charge.
The posts of Lighthouse Keepers have been divided into two classes and are not now numbered. Two 2nd Class Lighthouse Keepers have been added in place of one Principal Lighthouse Keeper and one 2nd Grade Eighth Lighthouse Keeper at Waglan Lighthouse.
For the better hoisting of weather signals at Blackhead's Hill Signal Station one Boatswain and three Seamen have been added to the establishment, the post of one Watchman being abolished. A new sub-section has been made of this station.
For work in connection with the afforestation of the New Territories one Forestry Demarcator at $180 has been added to the Staff of the District Officer, Northern District.
With the return to normal conditions after the war, the Police Force has required considerable reinforcement to bring it up to pre-war strength and in conformity with pre- sent day needs. The following new posts have therefore been added :—
1 5th Grade Clerk.
1 5th Grade Telephone Clerk.
1 4th Grade Sergeant Interpreter.
4 European Lance Sergeants. 15 European Constables.
2 Chinese Inspectors at $600 each.
32 Chinese Constables at $150 each.
5 Female Searchers at $120 each.
1 1st Class Engineer at $360 to Water Police.
2 Messengers at $108 each.
5 Coolies at $108 each.
The introduction of new motor fire engines has necessitated an increase of Staff in the Fire Brigade.

1 Painter at $288
have therefore been added.
Owing to an increase in the clerical work at Victoria Gaol one Temporary 5th Grade Clerk has been added.
Owing to the opening of a new ward in the Government Civil Hospital and to the extension of the Sisters' Quarters the following have been added to the establishment:-
2 Probationer Dressers, ($300 to $600 by $60 annually).
2 Amahs at $192 each.
3 Ward Boys at $168 each.
1 Coolie at $108.
Attendants on Sisters:
1 Boy at $144.
1 Coolie at $108.
