Appendix III,-Continued.

Drawings have hitherto been done by the Locomotive Superintendent, but the work has considerably increased recently, and a Draughtsman is now considered necessary.

These men are required to relieve Guards and Booking Clerks in cases of short leave or sickness.

The maximum salary of the 5th Grade ($660) was not considered sufficient for Station Masters, whose hours are long and whose duties are of a responsible nature.

Allowances to 2 Auxiliary Signalmen. These allowances are paid to two members of the Traffic Staff who have qualified as Signalmen and are available as reliefs in case of leave or sickness.

The Traffic Watchmen were reduced from 11 to 9 in the 1918 Estimates. It is now considered that the two Watchmen then dispensed with are required.

Required for latrines at Blackhead's Point, Hunghom Station, and Locomotive Yard, as the Government Contractor's contract calls only for removal and not for cleaning.

A new Station is being built by the Chinese Section to replace the present temporary structure, and the rent has been increased.
