Dear Miss Choi:

Enclosed are the photocopies of the CHINA DIRECTORIES for 1863 and 1867 which you have ordered.

Every effort has been made to make the copies as complete and legible as possible. However, as the size of the printed area on some of the pagce was irregular, and the binding of the 1867 edition was awkward to work with, some of the page numbers and running heads were unavcidatly cut off.

Also the 1867 edition has a large fold-out map which we had to copy in four overlapring 8" x 14" sections, and a fold-cut shipping schedule which required two E" x 11" sections for each side. Cur copy of the 1867 edition unfortunately lacks rages 5 and 6 of the advertisements in the back. The 1863 edition has a fold-out shipping schedule which required two 8" x 11" sections to copy.

Each of the copies has been collated with the original book, and the sheets are arranged in the same order as the pages in the criginals.
