A PLEASURE TO THE PALATE
From the First Auction of eight chests of Assam Tea at 25/. lb. one hundred years ago until today, the story of Tea makes interest- ing reading.
fter the early struggle to establish it as a commercial proposition, quality was always foremost in the minds of producers and distributors. The result was a spectacular increase in the consumption and the establishment of Tea as the national beverage.
The idea of producing quantity belore quality, in order to reduce costs is more recent, and, of course, became a vicious circle with large quantities of lower grade Tea Flooding markets
The pleasure from drinking Tea lies in the reaction of the palate to the flavour, and the palate does not respond to tonnage.
