The lovely weather on Sunday held out high hopes that the first round of the OPEN PAIRS LAWN BOWLS CHAMPIONSHIP would ret off to an auspicious start.

But this was not to be, for the torrential rain which fell in the morning and early afternoon yesterday washed out all of the 17 games down for decision except two, and one of these was left un finished on the 19th bead.

It is learned that yesterday a visitor to the exhibition evinced a desire to buy either "Sunset Sea-shore"a large study of blaz- ing set colours, or "Dreaming. Waterfall"—-a “shan-sbu?' new Chi- nese painting both of which are the highest priced exhibits at $500 each.
One of the finest examples of Mr. Lee's work "Moonlight › Bailing."
Most of "Mr. Lee's former works were destroyed by the wat in Shanghal in 1938,
