The market was quiet but steady. NEW YORK COTTON: Demand is dull and offerings are small. Trade demand caused moderate upturns, With the better prices which have prevailed this season, farmers expect that very nearly the full allotted acreage for 1940 to 1941 will be seeded, assuming an average weather, production of about 13,000,000 bales could easily be seen.

NEW YORK RUBBER: The tightness of the shipment market has a steadying influence.

CHICAGO WHEAT: European war news induced heavy short- Covering, while reports of dust storms in Kansas and Nebraska were also today's, stimulating influences.

NEW YORK STOCKS: Previous close, 147.97; Today's close. 148.32; Change, up 35.
