CLUB'S ANNUAL RACE MEETING:

ONE DEAD HEAT

Mr. Li Lansang Wins

Coveted Treble

The 1940 Annual Meeting of the Hongkong Jockey Club was brought to a close on Saturday when nine events" were run off. Racing was lacking in thrills, except for one dead heat, when Mr. Li Po-chun's Expansion Time and Mr. Eu Tong-sen's Potentate finished abreast for second place in the second section of the Ichang Handicap.

There was a big demand on the Cash Sweeps, but the pari-mutuel returns were on the low side. Connieber paid the highest dividend of the day with $59,50.

The Daily Double returned] $376.20 for the correct com- bination of Willynilly "and

Palmer.

LEADING JOCKEY Mr. Hearne was the leading jockey with two wins and a second in eight starts, while Mrs. Traggart headed the owners list with a first and a third.

The much coveted treble was brought off by Mr. Li Lan- sang's Far View (Mr. Pih, up) when it won the Australian Ponies Champions. The pony, however, Just falled to equal the track record, being a fifth of a second behind the pre- vious mark of 2.10.3.

It is reported, in the ~ Sing Tho Jih Paò, that the Second Prite In the Derby Sweep has been won by an Indian constable of the Hongkong Police, and not by an 'em- ployes of Cable and Wireless Ltd.

The constable is sald to have contributed part of the money to Chinese rellef funds.
