IN THE DELIGHTFULLY INFORMAL ATMOSPHERE of a country meeting a record holiday crowd saw some thrilling racing at Kwant yesterday afternoon at the Fanling Hunt and Race Club's December meeting.

His Excellency the Governor and Lady Northcote were pre- sent at the meeting.

The cash sweeps and pari-mutuet were well patronised and the excellent dividends paid are a good indication of the large amount of money in circulation on the course.The meeting was in every respect a thorough success.

There was only one mishap-f Race 1-The Talpo Handicap- It could be called a mishap when Steeplechase of 1 Miles for Iroquois refused the mile and China Ponies. 41 three-quarter fence second, time Mr. H. B. L. Dowbiggin's Ebony round and in doing so dislodged its rider Mr. Cowrie who, however, was happily unhurt and led his mcunt back to the stable:

The field went off in line. Glorious Star soon took the lead followed by Sea Urchin, Kiola and Spectrum and they passed the stands into the back stretch this order. Iroquois refused the mile and three-quarter jump and unseated its rider Mr. "Cowrie, Bin- go was at this stage more than a furlong behind the rest and even- tually finished last National Unity ran off the track.
