(Reuter)

In a statement in the House of Commons yesterday. Mr. R. A. Butter, Under-Secretary, for Foreign Affairs, said that the wharfage facilities made avail- able to Third Power shipping at Tsingtao continue to be Inadequate.

At Chefoo, pressure has been

brought to bear on the Chi nese merchant to ship by other than British vessels. but the situation. according to reliable unofficial reports, was now stated to be somewhat easter.

On No. 10 level the development drive from the rise has shewn a marked improvement.

DERRICK SECTION Un No. 3 level winzing has com- menced from the north drive.

Un No. 5 level intermediate south has commenced from the wine at 850 feet south.

On No. 6 level the south drive from the 200 feet south crosscut nas continued on improving grade. The drives from the east crosscut 400 feet south have not been pay- able.

All mining ceased on this sec- tion from 27.10.39 to retimber the upper section of the Derrick Shaft The work is almost completed.

MALACCA SECTION

The No. 2 level station pump has been installed and prepara- tions for shaft sinking were almost completed when the compressor installed broke down-a smaller une is temporarily installed pend- ing the arrival of a larger one.
