The nearness of the war danger boomed prices from the open- ing of the market, but later reports of an easing of the situation brought about general itquidation and prices slumped badly towards. the close.

Frices opened higher on war prospects in Europe and advanced further on general buying, but the market towards the close took the downward trend on rumours of renewed peace talks and of the possiblilties of the avoidance of a general' confllet.
