WORK
(Contiqued from "Page 1)
if not for the assistance and co- operation of these local centres and various other people and organiza- tions in these regions.
The activities had not been-cur- talled by the advent of hostilities in areas concerned, stated Mr Scott. With some adaptation, the work has been carried on despite handicaps, -and-lf-anything...has: only expanded.
Apart from monetary support. the Society also sends drugs and- other medical supplies to these local centres, and it is the aim of the Society to dispatch a six- months' supply so that the centres MAY function o matter what happens.
BRITISH FUND
The _supplles_have_mostly been donated by public relief bodies in various countries and also by private individuals. The bulk has come from the British Fund for the Rellef of Distress in China, but many other countries have also contributed.
Mr. Scott mentioned especially the great help which Swedish or- ganizations "had given to the So- clety. For a small country, said Mr. Scott. Sweden had done mar- vellously and he was thankful to the Swedish people as to the peo- ple of other nationalities.
Holland was another country which had contributed a great deal to relief needs. Quinine in large quantities had regularly been re- ceived from the Dutch East Indies. and no less than 90 cases had re- cently been received. .....
The supplies are first sent to Hongkong, carriage being pald by the original donors. From here, they are transported free by Butterfeld artd Swize steamers to Haiphong, where, it is conveyed without charge or payment of duties by "the French Government rallway" to Kunming.
-
The supplies are then sent to Kwelyang by the Chinese Govern meat, which has placed ample transport facilities at the disposal of the Society. The drugs are re- packed at Kweiyang and" from there 26
distributed to various localities.

AREA OF DISTRIBUTION
An idea of the area of distribu tlon may be gained from the fact that about 70 local centres supplied by the Society. These 70 centres are located in seven pro- vinces
Are
Between 400 and 500 cases of drugs and suppiles reach Kwel- yang each month, and the great deal of work necessary to deal with these supplies is accomplish- |· ed largely by volunteer aid.
In addition to supporting beds at various centres, the Society also subsidises the centres as regarda out-patients, and payment of 10
cents a visit is made. These oute patients are mostly refugees who need medical attention on account of malnutrition, accidents on their way or exhaustion of their re- -sources.
The Society also co-operates very closely with other reljef organizations in China, such as the National Belief Com- mission, the League of Nations Epidemics Conimission, the National Health Administra- tlari and the Chinese 1. dustrial Co-operatives."
