ANTI-WAR SENTIMENT RISING IN JAPAN

WAR PRISONERS INTERVIEWED TELL OF DIFFICULTIES OF FIGHTING IN CHINA

FANCHENG, HUPEH, May 23 (Central)-A Cen- tral News correspondent visited twenty Japanese war prisoners who passed through here recently.

Isolated for a considerable time from the rest of China, the Chinese guerilla units in the Tapich Moun- tain Range on the Anhwei-Honan-Hupeh border pur- posely sent these war prisoners to the rear to prove that they were still in control of the mountain range.

Asked of their impression of the long trip from "the Tapleh Moun- NO CORROBORATIVE tain Range, one of them replied: "We were well treated all alorig the way by the Chinese peasants who offered us cigarettes, towels and other things. In some places meetings were held to welcome us. When we arrived here to-day, Chi-i nese civilians gave us shoes and socks and invited us to take a bath."
