"THERE IS HEARTENING NEWS FROM CHINA," WROTE PEARL BUCK IN "FREE CHINA GETS TO WORK" an article. on the Chinese Industrial Co-operatives which appeared in the.. April issue of "Asia." Like many other supporters both in China and abroad, this author had no sooner heard "about the co-operatives than she wanted to tell all her readers that here at last was a way of providing for China's refugees, erecting a barrier against the impoverishment and social disintegration of her people, and, at the same time, helping her in her struggle for independence.
