The market opened 1/4 of a cent lower for all deliveries as compared with Thursday's closing rates.
Early in the morning the market displayed a quiet undertone. Although fair enquiries for "spot" Rubber by, consuining centres were in evidence, speculators were hesitant to enter into fresh com- mitments due to the unsettled European political situation.
Later in the session the market turned easter due to specula- tive liquidation, which, coming on a narrow market, caused prices to decline by 1/4 cent for all deliveries.
The statistical position of Grude-Rubber continues showing steady improvement. March consumption in USA.. to be shorth announced. Is variously estimated as from 48,000 to 50,000 tons.

Prices at the opening were slightly below yesterday's Fluctuations throughout the day were narrow, with the market working both ways, closing slightly above the day's lows. No im mediate action is anticipated in regard to the barter plan for cotton and wheat against rubber and tin.

Rubber slumped on heavy selling and liquidation on fears that the barter plan would lead to an increase in quotas. Prices "closed" from 23 to 28 points below the previous day's close, which, however, was slightly above to-day's lowest.
