APPEAL BY LADY NORTHCOTE
Finance Campaign Of Chinese Y.W.Č.A.
..rave
Northcote Lady interesting broadcast talk last night from. ZBW on the Chl- ness Young Women's Christian Association in a generous endeavour to help the Associa- tion in its recently started Finance Campaign.
In the course of her address, Lady Northcote sald:
More and more as this dreadful war goes on the demand becomes greater for not only workers, but trained workers, and that is where the Young Women's Christian Association is giving such excellent service. They are training nurses, teachers and secretaries, and are doing endless good work among the refugees wherever the tide of war has passed. But we must re- member that before these girls were able to do so much to help the cause of suffering humanity. to be trained, in they all had some cases quite a long training, and that training costs money..
FINE WORK
I am sure that most of us wou'd like to help in this fine work as far as possible, and here is a way in which we can all be of real help, and that is to And the funds which will go towards training all those many girls who are anxious to help but who cannot afford to do it themselves.
SO
Another object for which funds are badly needed is tor clothing. Many
of the thousands of re- fugees are entirely destitute and cold though it may be here, fur-. ther North it is terrible, so large quantities of padded coats for men. women and children are of the utmost necessity, and so are shoes,, and these all need money.
FOOD PROBLEM · There is also the problem of food supplies. There the need is boundless; still we can give our
The malte towards it."
Young Women's Christian Association are hoping to raise at least $16,000. It is a large sum but by no means beyond what is so badly needed. and it is one which I have every hope that it will be possible "to raise.
There are dozens of other activi- tles of the Young Women's Chris- tian Association which I have not mentioned, excellent though they are. but it seems to me that the training in character which all these girls receive is of the utmost importance not only for their work now but for all their future lives, and for the good citizenship which It teaches them.
I hope that all who can, will avail themselves of this oppor- tunity of helping and of helping generously.
ENTERTAINMENT AT FRENCH CONVENT
The members of the St. Paul Recreation Club, French Convent, Causeway Bay, are staging a dramatised version of Lewis Car- rol's immortal story "Alice in Won- derland." They have already which given two performances. give evidence of really hard work un the part of the children and careful training, and which have delighted those who were present at them.
Before the feature play there is a very well acted little curtain- raiser entitled "The Stepsisters,” in which the young artistes are just as much at home.
Two more performances will be given, one on Friday. Mar. 17, and the other on Monday, Mar. 20, at 5.30 p.m. at the French Convenit, Causeway Bay.
The pluys are in aid of the Catholic Truth Bociety to which the entire proceeds of the perfor- mances will be given.
