In response to advices received from London and New York the market opened 1/4 of a cent higher for all deliveries as compared with Thursday's closing quotations.

Throughout the session the market displayed a steady under- tone. A fair demand for "actuals" was in evidence, whilst there was also good buying interest in futures for trade and speculative accounts.

Later in the session prices advanced by 1/8 cent on persistent further buying which consisted partly of shortcovering.

Closing tone was stendy.

It would appear that the better serument was caused by re- laxation of the European political tension as well as by a general, $1 expectation that the IR.R. Committee, at their next meeting on present permissible export 14th Inst., may decide on leaving the quota unchanged for the second quarter of this year.

The average forecast of last week's stock of rubber in London and in Liverpool shows a decrease of 850 tona.

Later, there was some buying by "spot" house and trade price-fixing: These orders absorbed liquida- tion by commission houses. There was some moderate switching and hedging. Trading, on the whole, was somewhat restricted. owing to the continued absence of any clarification of the Washing- ton outlook.
