REVIEW

Quiet Market

BY C. A. E RICKETT) Secretary, Hongkong Sharebrokers' Association

Jan. 20, 1939.

Another quiet week has been experienced on the local market. The volume of business has been small and prices "have been in- clined to drift downwards through lack of interest. There were, how- ever, more enquiries towards the close of business but it was dif- ficult to obtain shares as sellers were disinclined to part with their shares at the lower price levels. The undertone of the market is "Armer at the close.

H.K.

Bank shares changed hands down to $13.50. Trams were done at $17.10 but later bids were raised to $17.20 without re- sulting in business. Hotels were wanted at $8.85 with sales re- ported at $8.60. China Lights (ex rts) had buyers at $8.40 and the Rights were wanted at $3 after Bus- changing hands at $3.10. iness in Larids has been reported down to $36. Realties were want- ed at $54. There has been en- quiry for Dairy Farms at $23) with shares offering at 324.

Gold mining stocks show some improvement over the previous weeks quotations. The market has been Irregular" although only small ductuations have been re- San Mauricio improved corded.
