PLAYING BEFORE A BIG CROWD at the Kowloon Football Club -ground yesterday afternoon, Portugal easily defeated Ireland in the first round of the Sunday Herald International Charity football cup competition. The Portuguese won by seven goals to one.

The match was featured by the return of A. V. Oosano, who has been absent from soccer for over a season, his brother, B. T. Gosano, and N. Beltrao. The latter two-have also not participated actively In local football for over a year.

The Gosano brothers, with A. V. leading the attack and B. T. at inside-right, combined well, and made the openings for the Portu- guese while Beltrao showed that he had lost none of his old form and was his usual cool self.

Hongkong Cricket Club have started most auspiciously in this year's Triangular Cricket Tournament, and the Army are facing almost certain defeat in their game which began on the Town ground yesterday.

Club ran up the big total of 293, which represented some fast scoring as they had the Army in around tea-time. Features of their innings were the polished batting of Alec Pearce and some forceful hitting by G. P. Longfield and D. McLellan, who added 137 runs for the sixth wicket.
