Reflecting conditions prevailing in London and New York the market ruled quiet after the opening. Activity for trade and specu- lative accounts was restricted due to lack of support from principal consuming centres.

Sabsequently, however the market became steady on some trade- buying, which, coming on a narrow market, caused prices to gradu- ally advance by 1/4 cent for all deliveries. Closing tone was quiet, but steady.

Market steady with fair business.

NEW YORK COTTON

Prices to-day moved within a narrow range. Early in the ses- sion, the market advanced on higher Liverpool and Bombay advices. This brought about covering by shorts and speculative buying. Later, however, the market reacted slightly on liquidation and profit-taking, with professional selling partially off-set by the strength of Wall Street. Finally, values again advanced on buying by the Trade.

At the opening the market was steady, but values soon moved higher, influenced by better cables from abroad. Commission Houses showed more interest and there was some factory buying. Liquida- tion of December contracts was well absorbed. Later, prices further improved on dealer buying and the better tone prevailing on Wall Street.
