Army Lose After Fine Start

In Friendly Rugger Match

After having enjoyed most of the opening moments of the game, the Army XV fell away badly to lose to the Club XV by a score of 17 to 3 points in a rugby game, played at Sookunpoo, on Saturday.

Gudgeon and Chiverail were the notabis absentees from the team, and Lt. Laurie, who plays a useful game in the forwards, has left the Colony.

The game of the whole was not up to the usual standard, as seen during the present season. Club

three-quarters were the only ones Throughout the Navy forwards that showed any life, and Redman had the better of the exchanges in the pack did good work.

Grieve distinguished himself by and their shooting, if not effective at times, was very accurate. The scoring three tries. Cesaford a try was and penalty goal Wilson Army forwards, besides being er- ratie were bent too much on drib-creidted with one conversión. bling.

Newby and Fisher, in the Navy's back line, were steady and gave good support to McAlister in goal who brought about some brilliant saves. Duncan. in goal for the Army, was also very steady.

The Navy's first goal came when after about twenty minutes' play. Newlands scored with a first time shot that beat Duncur all the way,

From this point the Army scem- ed to have an equal share of the exchange.

Within a few minutes after the resumption of play the Navy's in- side left increased the score, and shortly after the Navy obtained their third goal through Mugglis ton. Towards the latter stages of the game Grogan reduced arrears for the Army.
