ROOF GARDEN
Miss Fok Wing-yee's Engagement
noon
The Roof Garden of the Hongkong Hotel was the, venue -of-an-informal. but none-the less brilliantly successful. 50- cial function yesterday after- on the occasion of the engagement of Miss Fok Wing- yee, the seventh daughter of Mr. Fok Chi-ting. muld- millionaire and well-known philanthropist of Canton,` to Mr. Ku Chung-shui, of the Bank of Canton.
Mr. Fok had decided that with! China at war, this party, instead of being conducted in the grand old Chinese style. should be just AN Informal tea party, where, apart from a few distinguished | guests, a large number of personal friends were present.
During tea pleasing music was played, to the strains of which the guests danced in an atmosphere) as enjoyable as it was informal,
Miss Fok looked radiant as she guided smoothly on the dance floor with her fance. She was, dressed in an exquisite gown of white satin with printed circular designs of red and blue. A beautiful red Tose. which added greatly to her already charming person. adorned her hair.

GUESTS THANKED Mrs. Tang Min-yan entertained the guests with a delightful piano solo of jazz music and Mr. Fok Po-chol, the brother of Miss Fuk Wing-yee, gave a short speech, on behalf of his father, thanking the guests for their presence.
Among the well-known persons present we could detect quite a few familiar faces from Shanghal Hongkong and Canton facial circles, included in which were Madame T. V. Soong, looking chic in a printed floral frock, and Mrs. George Wi (former Miss Elsie Kwok, the Miss Shanghai of a few years ago). 100king as well grooth- ed as ever in a black georgette creation with white embroidered "flowers. Lack of space prevents a description of the dresses of the other ladies.
Others 'present included Mr. and Mrs. Tang Min-yan, Mr. and Mrs. T. F. Lo, Mr. and Mrs. Tang Man- chun and many others.
